Plumbase go Putting!November 7, 2018
For a number of years now, Plumbase have arranged brilliant trips with customers and suppliers. But it must be said that the event this year was a true winner. Taking a break from the dreary UK, the team and their guests spent the weekend in Costa Del Sol, in the beautiful southern town of Benalmádena. With representatives from Barlo, Vaillent, Polypipe, Danfoss and of course our Plumbase team, it was a great experience for all. Four days and nights of Spanish sunshine, golf on the green, and San Miguel. Marvellous.
The La Cala Americas golf course.
The group stayed at Hotel MAC Puerto Marina, only a stones throw away from the ocean. Along with the stunning sea front is the marina and promenade, perfect for serious business chatter while the gents picked out their yachts. This area is also host to an array of bars and restaurants, popular with other tourists and golfers. After touch down, the team had the day to get their bearings and catch some rays by the pool – the weekend itinerary advised that mankini’s we’re optional, which may be why we have no pictures of the team taking a dip. Hotel Mac also has a variety of facilities such as live music each night, massages by the pool and a hair salon, although I’m unsure the team required every treatment on offer!
Pictured here are Gerry Mctear from McTear Contracts, Kevin Weir of Danfoss, Iain Turnbull from Aberdeen Heat & Power, and Graeme Stephen from Donview Construction.
Friday 19th – Mijas Los Olivos
The Mijas Los Olivos golf club, abundant with gorgeous olive trees as the name might indicate, has two courses. Our team tackled the smaller of the two, but by no means easier! As well as avoiding the olive trees, the course featured elevated greens and some water hazards.
Saturday 20th – La Cala Americas
With three 18-hole golf courses, the La Cala Golf Resort hosted our team on the Campo America course. Campo Asia was fully booked that weekend, and Campo Europa we’re tentative while negotiations were still taking place. However, this worked out well, as the Campo Americas course was the positioned highest in the La Cala resort. Our team had breath-taking views of the course and surrounding areas. The wide green made it an ideal course for getting those long drives in. Campo Americas has linked fairways and few bunkers. However, the hilly landscape required a bit more walking across steeper bush covered slopes. The team needed their shots accurate on the small raised greens, which demanded a more careful selection of clubs to get that hole-in-one!
Sunday 21st – Torrequabrada
On the final day, the team we’re at the stunning Torrequabrada golf course, famous for its immaculate fairways. Being only 3km away from the resort, this was an ideal last location – a short journey back to enjoy their final night! Although not the longest, measuring only 6,300 yards, the course is not to be underestimated. With each fairway lined with trees, sharp dog-legs and nine water hazards, the team were challenged at every hole.
The overall champion of the weekend was Kevin Heffernan of Heffernan Heating Solutions in Aberdeen! He is pictured left with Ian Hamilton from Plumbase.
Yes, this was a business trip. However, the group made some brilliant memories and played some fantastic golf. Here are some more honourable mentions and the results of the weekend’s tournament:
John Rennie of W&M Stuart – Second overall
Ian Hamilton of Plumbase – Third overall
Craig Gillan of Plumbing and Heating Provider – Longest drive
Iain Foreman of QTS – Nearest the Pin
Finally, on the Monday, the team took their flight back to the UK. I’m sure the weather as they landed in Edinburgh brought them quickly back to reality!
